NERL Data Services

This service provides secure and reliable access to Aeronautical Fixed Service (AFS) Data via the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN) and Aeronautical Message Handling Service (AMHS).

Designed to support flight operations, the service enables the exchange of critical aeronautical information such as Flight Plans, NOTAMs, and Meteorological Data (OPMET).

The Flight Data Services provide access to real-time and historical flight information, supporting enhanced situational awareness, noise tracking, and recording at the customer’s premises.

This service delivers flight data, updates, and arrival information through secure network connections, enabling operational insight without supporting aircraft control.

This service provides access to the Air Traffic Operational Telephone Network (ATOTN), supporting secure and efficient voice communications essential for air traffic services (ATS).

It enables direct telephony connections between operational units, enhancing coordination and safety in air traffic management.

This service provides robust and secure voice and data network connectivity to support a range of operational needs defined in associated service schedules.

Through NATS’ integrated infrastructure—including CAPSIN and EDWAN—customers gain reliable access to essential aeronautical communication services.

The CCDS (Code Callsign Distribution System) Data Service provides access to real-time aircraft identification data, enabling enhanced situational awareness, noise tracking, and recording capabilities at the customer’s premises.

This service supports operational monitoring and analysis by linking aircraft codes to callsigns via a secure connection to NATS’ CCDS database.

NATS provides comprehensive monitoring and commissioning services for Non-Directional Beacons (NDBs) to support aviation navigation and compliance.

These services ensure that beacon performance is regularly assessed and maintained in line with regulatory standards.

The DA (Direct Access) Voice Service provides dedicated voice communication channels between specified sites to support air traffic management operations.

This service ensures secure, reliable, and direct telephony for operational coordination across the air traffic network.

The Plot Service provides access to aircraft positional data from individual surveillance sensors (radars), offering either 2D or 3D views at specific points in time. It is primarily used by external customers (e.g. airports) who require data from one or a few radar sources.

Data Format

• Delivered in ASTERIX CAT034/048 format.
• Suitable for integration into air traffic systems and monitoring tools.

Sensor Types

• Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) – Non-cooperative; detects aircraft without requiring onboard systems.
• Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) – Cooperative; interacts with aircraft transponders to receive additional data.

Supporting Systems

• Non-Cooperative Sensor Services: Detects aircraft using PSR without onboard cooperation.
• Cooperative Sensor Services: Uses SSR to receive data from equipped aircraft.
• All-Purpose Data Replicator (ADR): Converts SurvIP data to serial format for client use.
• Surveillance Unicast Gateway (SUG): Mediates and converts IP data from third-party sensors for internal/external distribution.
• Enroute Radar Control and Monitoring System (ERCAMS): Centralised monitoring of radar sites, integrating environmental sensors (e.g. wind speed, temperature, alarms).
