NATS recognised among world’s top climate leaders for third consecutive year
UK air traffic services provider NATS has once again been recognised as a global leader on climate action, securing a place on CDP’s prestigious Climate ‘A List’ for 2025.
The not-for-profit organisation CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) has awarded NATS an ‘A’ rating for the third year running, placing it in the top 4% of more than 22,100 companies worldwide assessed for climate transparency and performance.
NATS’ continued inclusion on the Climate A List reflects its long-term commitment to sustainability through its Target Zero ambition and its journey towards becoming carbon negative.
Key actions contributing to the 2025 rating include the installation of large-scale solar schemes across NATS’ Swanwick and Prestwick sites, delivering over 10,000 solar panels and generating up to 21% of annual electricity demand.
In 2024–25, 100% of NATS’ electricity procurement came from renewable sources, achieving its 2030 target ahead of schedule. Work is also underway to eliminate gas use at several NATS sites, supporting the ambition to make Prestwick Control Centre the world’s first net zero air traffic control centre by 2030.
Ian Jopson, Sustainability Director, NATS, said: “Being recognised on CDP’s Climate A List for the third year running is a strong endorsement of the action we’re taking to address our climate impacts. It shows that our strategy is robust, our targets are credible, and our delivery is making a real difference. However, this recognition is not a reason to stand still. It reinforces our responsibility to keep pushing forward and to help lead the transition to a more sustainable future for aviation.”
NATS continues to collaborate closely with industry partners to decarbonise aviation and improve airspace efficiency, including the introduction of new airspace management tools such as Time-Based Separation at Gatwick, and contributions to major European research initiatives under the SESAR 3 programme.
CDP runs the world’s largest independent environmental disclosure and benchmarking system, recognising organisations that demonstrate strong governance, ambitious targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, independently verified data, and clear progress in tackling climate change. In 2025, just 877 companies globally achieved an ‘A’ rating.
